Traffic alert for drivers in Bladen County

 

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) - The North Carolina DOT will close Lyon Landing Rd. between Suggs-Taylor Rd. and Owen Hill Rd. for the next three-weeks.

This closure is necessary so crews can replace a cross line pipe underneath the road. There are no signed detours, so plan an alternative route during time of construction.

The road will re-open on Monday, January 28.

Car show to be held at Jones Lake Park

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A car show will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at Jones Lake Park, according to The Bladen Journal.

The event is being hosted by the Friends of the Bay Lakes. Registration starts at 10 a.m., and judging starts at noon.

A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3.

Tar Heel Bridge is open again for drivers

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – There’s good news for some drivers in Bladen County – the Tar Heel Bridge has re-opened.

The bridge was closed for weeks after a truck carrying dead hogs got stuck on it and couldn’t be moved safely.

The situation left many drivers frustrated, because the detour took them 35 miles out of their way.

Register now for car show at Dublin Peanut Festival Classic

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Registration is taking place now for those interested in participating in the Classic Cruisers Car Club’s car show at the Dublin Peanut Festival, according to The Bladen Journal.

All antique classic cars and trucks are welcome.

The event will be held Sept. 15 at Dublin Elementary School, with no rain date scheduled.

New Hanover, Bladen counties top AAA lists for accidents

NEW HANOVER and BLADEN COUNTIES, NC (WECT) - AAA Carolinas has released new traffic data on traffic crashes for the state, based on data from 2011.

Once again, New Hanover County is in the top five most dangerous counties for car accidents. New Hanover also checked in as the second most likely county to be involved in a traffic accident, as well as the second most likely county that folks are likely to be injured in a car accident.

Engines will be roaring for the Annual Car and Truck Show

Engines will be roaring for the Annual Car and Truck Show

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) - Engines will be roaring on Saturday, August 11 for the 14th Annual “Made in the Shade” Open Car and Truck show.

Drivers will have a chance to show off their prize possessions in hopes to win the “Best in Show” title.

This event will take place at the San Jose Restaurant across from Wal-Mart on 1320 Broad St. Top trophies will be awarded to the “Top 80 Pre 1981” vehicles and “Top 20 1981 and Newer “ vehicles.

All vehicles must be registered to be in the show. Registration to enter the contest is $25 and registration will be open from 8 a.m. until noon on event day. Judging will begin at Noon until 3 p.m.

Tar Heel Bridge to close temporarily following weekend accident

TAR HEEL, NC (WECT) – The Tar Heel Bridge that runs over the Cape Fear River will be closed for up to two months following a weekend accident.

According to Drew Cox with the Department of Transportation, the bridge sustained significant damage when a truck that was too small tried to pass, hitting the overhead support pieces of the bridge.

The accident happened early Saturday morning, but the truck is still stuck on the bridge while DOT officials from Raleigh try to determine the safest way to remove the truck.

Cox says once the truck is removed, they will begin to determine what repair work is necessary to keep the bridge operable.
