'Click it or Ticket' campaign celebrates 20 years

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Monday, May 20th marks the 20th anniversary of North Carolina DOT “Click or Ticket” campaign.

According to the press release, North Carolina was the first state to launch this safety program in 1993.

The release also states, The Click it or Ticket campaign runs through Memorial Day weekend and ends on June 2nd.  During this time officers will cite driver’s state wide who do not buckle up.

Two bridges in Bladen County will be replaced in May

TAR HEEL, NC  (WECT) - Work will begin in May for two bridges In Bladen County on Tar Heel Ferry Road crossing over the Cape Fear River.  

According to the press release, these bridges will be replaced under an $11.8 million contract the NCDOT awarded in March to Carolina Bridge Co. Inc. of Orangeburg, S.C.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Suggs-Taylor Road closed for the next month

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) - The North Carolina DOT is shutting down Suggs-Taylor Road near Owen Hill Road for the next month. The reason for this closure is so crews can replace crossline pipes along the road.

Be sure to pack your patience, the road is expected to re-open Monday April, 29.

2 schools win regional model bridge competition

2 schools win regional model bridge competition

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Two schools in Bladen County recently won the 2013 Regional Model Bridge Competition.

According to a press release, about 250 students across the state participated in the four regional contests.

Each team was judged on a written report, oral presentation, design drawing and structural efficiency of the model.

Clarkton Middle School won on the Middle School level while East Bladen High School took home the high school level.

Now, both schools will compete at the statewide level next month. Good luck to both schools!

TRAFFIC ALERT: Guyton Road closed for the next three weeks

BLANDENBORO, NC (WECT) - The North Carolina DOT is closing Guyton Road heading east near NC 410 in Bladenboro. 

The reason for this closure is so crews can replace crossline pipe along the road. There are no signed no detours, so be sure to plan an alternative route for the next three weeks.

Guyton road is expected to re-open Monday, March, 25.

Traffic alert for drivers in Bladen County

 

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) - The North Carolina DOT will close Lyon Landing Rd. between Suggs-Taylor Rd. and Owen Hill Rd. for the next three-weeks.

This closure is necessary so crews can replace a cross line pipe underneath the road. There are no signed detours, so plan an alternative route during time of construction.

The road will re-open on Monday, January 28.

Car show to be held at Jones Lake Park

Car show to be held at Jones Lake Park

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A car show will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 at Jones Lake Park, according to The Bladen Journal.

The event is being hosted by the Friends of the Bay Lakes. Registration starts at 10 a.m., and judging starts at noon.

A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3.
