Teenager charged for bringing gun to Elizabethtown Middle School

A student at Elizabethtown Middle School was charged after reports of a gun on campus came in to law enforcement.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A middle school student from Bladen County was charged after a gun was found on school grounds.

According to Bladen County Schools, sheriff's deputies were called to Elizabethtown Middle School to investigate a report of a weapon found on campus.

A 13-year old brought a vintage starter pistol to Elizabethtown Middle on January 29, according to a school spokeswoman,

WECT.com is told the pistol is similar to the type used in signaling the start of a race or competitive sport and will only fire caps or blanks. 

The teenager allegedly removed it from his grandfather's home and brought it to school.  

The student was charged through juvenile services. No other details were released regarding the charges.

Bladen Lakes Primary announces accelerated readers for Jan.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officials from Bladen Lakes Primary School announced the January accelerated reader competition awards on the school district’s website Friday.

According to the school, Accelerated Reader is a product of Renaissance Learning that allows students to read books on individual reading levels, take quizzes on the books and earn points.

Best attendance awards presented in Bladen Co.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officials with the Bladen County school district have announced the schools in each division with the best attendance for the month of December.

According to the school district’s website, three schools received attendance award banners during the December 2012 Board of Education meeting.

From Bladen County schools:

Elementary School Division
With an average student attendance during the month of November at 95.33 percent, there was a tie between East Arcadia School, under the leadership of Mr. Ronald Coley and Plain View Primary, under the leadership of Ms. Deborah Belle as the recipients for December.
