Leaders look for new projects in new budget

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Leaders in Elizabethtown are gearing up for their budget retreat next week.

Mayor Sylvia Campbell said they are looking for new projects since the Downtown Revitalization project is complete.

According to Campbell, the budget is looking good and leaders will release the final budget for next year in April.

One potential project for the future involves repaving some of the roads.

Here are some items of interest from the meeting’s agenda:

  • State of the County address from Chairman Peterson
  • Update regarding required Viper Radio upgrades
  • Report of unpaid 2011 taxes that are liens on real property
  • Advisory Board appointments to be considered for Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Social Services Board

The meeting is open to the public and will take place in the assembly room on the lower level of the Courthouse, located at 106 E. Broad Street in Elizabethtown.

Five candidates file for seats in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The election filing period began at noon on Monday and five residents signed up to run for seats in Bladen County.

David Gooden and James Smith, both democrats from Elizabethtown, threw their hats into the ring for county-wide Commissioner spots. Bryan Martin, a republican, will run for District #1 and Lewis Tatum, a democrat, will run for District #3 in the County Commissioner race.

Democrat William Brisson, of Bladenboro, filed to run for the N.C. House of Representatives.
