Bladen County Sheriff responds to gun control debate

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bladen County Sheriff Prentis Benston is letting his citizens know where he stands when it comes to the controversy over gun control.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office released a statement given the recent debate.

“Every North Carolina sheriff, upon assuming their office, took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of North Carolina,” Benston wrote.

McIntyre-Rouzer recount cost taxpayers $18,000

The recount of votes in the NC7 Congressional race cost taxpayers more than $18,000

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) –  The recount of votes in the District 7 Congressional race between Mike McIntyre and David Rouzer cost taxpayers at least $18,000, according to figures from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

The twelve-county recount on November 26-28 verified McIntyre's victory over Rouzer in the general election. McIntyre lost one vote in the process, winning a ninth term in Congress by 654 votes out of more than 336,000 cast in the race.

Elections officials put the recount cost at $18,096, with only Robeson County not reporting a total cost.

Town holds reception in honor of Kenneth Waddell

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Town of Chadbourn will host a reception for former mayor Kenneth Waddell Tuesday night. He was recently elected to the NC House of Representatives District 46 Seat.

Everyone in Chadbourn is invited to attend the event at Town Hall on Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Waddell will be sworn in as a state representative at 6:45 p.m.

District 46 includes all of Columbus County and some of Robeson and Bladen Counties.

Incumbent holds strong in District 1

Incumbent holds strong in District 1

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Residents voiced their opinions Tuesday and the results are in.

According to preliminary results for the 2012 General Elections, incumbent Delilah Blanks (D) will hold on to her position as commissioner in District 1.

Blanks defeated Bryan Martin by earning 72% of the vote.

McIntyre to campaign in Elizabethtown Monday

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) - Congressman Mike McIntyre will be in Elizabethtown Monday as part of his re-election campaign. McIntyre will travel down the coast starting in Clayton, NC at 9am and ending in Elizabethtown at 5pm. His "Clayton to the Coast" trip will end Tuesday afternoon.

NC politician talks to students about his work, education

NC politician talks to students about his work, education

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A state politician recently went to a local school to talk to children about his job and the importance of education.

NC Representative William Brisson (D) spoke to fifth grade students in Tar Heel Friday, according to the Bladen County Schools’ website.

Brisson said that he enjoys his job because he’s able to assist community members. Brisson also advised students at the event to work hard in school to better their futures.

He is the former Chair of the Bladen County Board of Commissioners.
