Animal shelter hosting Adoptathon this weekend

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you’re interested in adopting a pet, you won’t want to miss this – the Bladen County Animal Shelter is hosting an Adoptathon Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to The Bladen Journal.

Officials from pet organizations and businesses will be on site to answer questions and give information about animal care. There will also be a pet groomer giving away free flea dips for dogs and trimming nails.

West Bladen High senior honored with award

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A West Bladen High School senior has been named the November 2012 Mountaire/Heartland Publications Scholar/Athlete, according to the Bladen County Schools website.

Every month, one student is chosen from Bladen, Robeson or Scotland County as a recipient of the award. WBHS’ Erica Tanner, a tennis and softball player for the school, was nominated by Coach Jeff Atkinson.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Charlie, a six-year-old mix breed dog, is in need of a loving home, according to A Shelter Friend.

If you’re interested in adopting Charlie, you have until Monday to do so. At that time, he will be put down.

He is being housed at the Bladen County Animal Shelter.

Group of kittens needs homes, donations

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - According to an animal rescue organization, called A Rescue Friend, a group of 13-week-old kittens need homes or donations as of the time of this posting.

The Animal Control Facility in Bladen County is a kill shelter, so the animals there have a limited amount of time to be rescued.

 The shelter is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Brownie, a rescued chocolate lab being housed at a local shelter, needs to undergo surgery on his leg.

The shelter he is at currently cannot sustain the costs for the surgery.
