BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Bladen County Sheriff’s deputy was injured after hitting a horse while off duty on Tuesday.

Deputy Kenny Simmons struck a horse that was in the road while driving in his personal truck on Chicken Foot Road near N.C. 20 around 6:30 a.m., according to Captain Rodney Hester.

He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville and was released Tuesday afternoon. The horse was killed as a result of the accident.

Hester said that Simmons is very sore and it will be several days before he returns to work.
