BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) — An Elizabethtown resident recently celebrated her 108th birthday, according to Bladen Online.

Arrelia High reportedly turned 108 on July 2.

Mothers invited to 'Eating Healthy' event in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) — According to Bladen Online, there will be an event tonight for young mothers or mothers-to-be to learn about the benefits of eating healthy.

The Bladen County Health Dept. will host the “Eating Healthy” presentation from 5:30-6:30 on Thursday, June 30. Women ages 13-24 who are pregnant or parenting are invited to attend.

Bladen Co. Hospital nurse wins Daisy Award

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bladen County Hospital’s Surgical Services Nurse Audra Sessoms has won Cape Fear Valley Health’s Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Sessoms won for going above and beyond to help an outpatient admitted to another facility. The patient suffers from a chronic condition that requires medication and therapy the patient was denied at the new facility.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Bladen County Hospital has added a mid-level provider position to its Emergency Department staff to reduce patient wait times, according to a news release.

A mid-level provider is a physician assistant or nurse practitioner who provides patient care under a supervising physician.

Bladen County Hospital’s new mid-level provider will provide care for non-life threatening injuries.

Bladen County Hospital CEO, Cameron Highsmith said in a news release that the hospital monitors wait times and asks for patient feedback through surveys given to patients when they are discharged.

Bladen Co. Hospital's digital mammography unit gets accredited

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) – Bladen County Hospital’s new digital mammography unit has received full accreditation from the American College of Radiology, according to a news release.

The hospital reportedly offers the county’s only digital mammography services through the Women’s Diagnostic Center. The service has been available to the public since March.

“We are so pleased to have received full accreditation so quickly,” said Mindy Goldsmith, CRA, Director of Radiology, in a news release. “We have had a great response from patients with this new technology.”

Digital mammography uses digital images rather than traditional film images. The digital images are screened by a Computer-Aided Detection system that detects small anomalies or suspicious growths that may go unnoticed with traditional film.

Bladen Kids' Care opens new entrance for pediatric office

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Bladen Kids’ Care patients now have an entrance they can call their own.

The pediatric office, located at 300A E. McKay St., recently opened a dedicated walkway and waiting area for its young patients and visitors, according to a news release.

The entrance is reportedly just around the corner from the clinic’s former entrance, located in front of the Bladen Medical Associates suite lobby.

Rabies vaccination clinic scheduled for Saturday in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Bladen County residents can have their pets vaccinated for rabies at four different locations on Saturday, June 11.

Residents can bring their dogs and cats to the following locations:

  • Turnbull Township, 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Ammon Grocery & Grill
  • Bethel Township, 2-2:30 p.m. at Hwy. 41 Grocery & Grill
  • Central Township, 2:45-3:15 p.m. at New Hogs Slat Bldg.
  • White Oak Township, 3:30-4 p.m. at FL Tatum Store

Each vaccination will cost $6. The owners of dogs and cats who have not been vaccinated in accordance with North Carolina law are subject to a civil penalty in the amount of $200.
