BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The 20th annual Dublin Peanut Festival will be held Saturday.

The family-friendly event, held at Dublin Elementary School, boasts a car show, parade, cornhole tournament and much more.

The only pets allowed will be service animals.

Beauty queens, kings interested in being in Dublin Peanut Festival Parade should enter now

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Dublin Peanut Festival Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Sept. 15, according to the festival’s website, and it will include clowns, fire trucks, beauty queens and old automobiles.

It’s free to enter the parade, except for beauty queens and kings who wish to participate.

For one king or queen in an automobile, the cost is $25. For two to three kings or queens in an automobile, the cost is $40.

Per each float or boat in the parade, the cost is $50 for participating kings and queens. However, if the entry fee for the parade is not received by Sept. 10, the fee will increase to $75.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Charlie, a six-year-old mix breed dog, is in need of a loving home, according to A Shelter Friend.

If you’re interested in adopting Charlie, you have until Monday to do so. At that time, he will be put down.

He is being housed at the Bladen County Animal Shelter.

Band to perform at Night Out in Elizabethtown

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Looking for something fun to do Thursday night? Elizabethtown is hosting a Night Out from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to The Bladen Journal.

The event will be held at the Elizabethtown Municipal Building, and the band Big Daddy Drive will perform.

There will also be food and games, as well as a slip and slide and water slide.

Bladenboro Historical Society to host annual Fun Day

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Bladenboro Historical Society, which is a nonprofit group, will be hosting its annual Fun Day Saturday, Sept. 8, according to the group’s website.

The event, scheduled to be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will boast a bounce house, train ride, Ferris wheel, carnival games, food and more.

It will take place at the Bladenboro Historical Building.

Benefit bike ride to be held for family of deputy killed

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A benefit bike ride will be held Saturday for the family of a deputy who was killed in a fatal crash in June, according to the The Bladen Journal.

A Bike Ride for Dewayne Hester will be held at West Bladen High School from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The cost is $15 for single riders and $20 for double riders. The costs include a meal ticket (which are $7 each) and door prizes.

The public can purchase barbecue plates starting at 11:30 a.m.

Group of kittens needs homes, donations

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - According to an animal rescue organization, called A Rescue Friend, a group of 13-week-old kittens need homes or donations as of the time of this posting.

The Animal Control Facility in Bladen County is a kill shelter, so the animals there have a limited amount of time to be rescued.

 The shelter is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
