Kids who read 5 library books can earn ticket to circus

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bladen County children who read are eligible to earn a free ticket to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, which is coming to Fayetteville Feb. 28-March 3.  

In order to go to the circus, kids ages 2 to 12 must read five books between now and the end of February, according to BladenOnline.com.

Participants should pick up tickets at any of the Bladen County libraries, and then check out books.

Church plans to honor Sandy Hook victims by ringing bell 27 times

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A local church plans to honor the 27 victims killed in the Newton, CT shooting Dec. 14.

According to BladenOnline.com, Bladenboro First Baptist Church will be ringing its bell 27 times Friday, beginning at 9:35 a.m., the time that the massacre is said to have been first reported.

‘Ducky Dynasty’ stars coming to Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Fans of A&E’s hit TV show Duck Dynasty will be able to meet two of its stars in person soon.

Phil Robertson and his wife Kay will be appearing at West Bladen High School Saturday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m., according to the Allen Brothers Hunting Preserve's website, the store that's hosting the event.

Phil will be speaking, and afterwards, fans can stick around for pictures and autographs.

Flu shots being offered at Bladen Co. schools

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Because flu season has already kicked into high gear, flu shots will be offered at some are schools this week, according to the Bladen County Schools website.

Wednesday, officials with the Bladen County Health Department will be administering shots at Bladenboro Primary and Bladen Lakes Primary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Thursday, shots will be given at Clarkton School of Discovery and Tar Heel Middle School from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Families, children and staff can attend the clinics, and insurance information will not be required.

Enjoy a night of Christmas traditions

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bladen Lakes Primary School’s annual Christmas Holiday Event is just around the corner.

The tradition-filled evening will take place, Thursday December 13 starting with pictures with Santa at 5:00 p.m.

This event will feature the inaugural tree lighting ceremony, a bake sale and a silent auction with items from local vendors, restaurants and more.

There will also be two musical performances featuring students in K-2 grades and 3-4 graders.

Kids can attend free dinner and movie night soon

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A local church will be hosting a free dinner and a movie night soon.

According to BladenOline.com, Hickory Grove Baptist Church’s Sunday school department will hold the event Saturday, Dec. 15 in the church’s Family Life Center.

Meet-and-greet-portraits will be taken starting at 6 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. and the movie Facing the Giants will start at 7 p.m.

Children’s Christmas program to be held at library Thursday

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Get into the Christmas spirit with your kids Thursday by attending the Bladen County Public Library’s Children's Christmas Program.

The event will take place at 6 p.m., according to the library’s Facebook page, and there will be stories, crafts, refreshments and a special visitor.

The event is described as a great photo opportunity.
