Bladen We Care sets dates for fundraising events

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Organizer with Bladen We Care have set dates for fundraising events that benefit residents in the area with health care grants.

According to a press release, a reverse raffle/auction/dance will be held April 12 at Lu Mil Vineyard, and a golf tournament is slated for April 25 at Carolina Sands Golf Course near White Lake.

Tickets for the dance are $100 per couple and are available at Fisher’s, Leinwand’s, and Campbell Oil Company’s Peanut Road office, all in Elizabethtown. They are also available from any Bladen We Care board member.

The press release says the reverse raffle has cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and $500.

Entry fee for the golf tournament is $500 per four-person team or $125 for individuals. According to a press release, each entry includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, gifts and raffles. Additional information is available by contacting members of Bladen We Care or Carolina Sands at 862-8796.

TDap immunization clinic this week at Elizabethtown Middle

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Fifth grade students in Bladen County will be given the option to take part in a TDap immunization clinic at their schools.

According to the school district’s website, only students who return the required paperwork will receive the vaccine at school.

The TDap is required by NC Immunization Law for all 6th grade students.

A clinic will will be held March 14 at Elizabethtown Middle School.

Dublin Lions Club hosting BBQ plate sale, auction

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Dublin Lions Club will be hosting a barbecue plate sale and auction soon, according to The Bladen Journal.

The event will take place Friday, March 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the auction starting at 7 p.m.

It will be held at the Dublin Lions Club Building, and the cost is $7 per plate either to eat there or take out.

Students get ready for Battle of the Books competition

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bladenboro Middle School students are preparing to compete in the 2013 Battle of the Books competition, scheduled for March 13 at Clarkton School of Discovery.

According to the Bladen County Schools website, students on teams of up to 12 members will square off in a quiz-bowl style tournament about the details of books they were required to read for the challenge.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Fifth grade students in Bladen County will be given the option to take part in a TDap immunization clinic at their schools.

Middle school students gain insight into career classes

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Eighth grade students in Bladen County recently attended the third annual countywide Career Awareness Day at Elizabethtown Middle School, hosted by the Bladen County Career-Technical Education (CTE) Department, according to the Bladen County Schools website.

The event was held as part of National CTE month, and students in attendance were able to see firsthand the Career-Technical Education classes offered at East and West Bladen high schools.

Tar Heel MS teacher organizes STEM fair

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students in Bladen County were given the opportunity to learn more about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

According to the Bladen County Schools website, Tar Heel Middle School recently held a STEM Career day, organized by science teacher David Wimert.

Representatives from DuPont Fayetteville Works and the National Weather Service were among some of the organizations that set up booths at the event.

Local STEM organizations like Bladen Soil and Water Conservation were also involved.
