'Ag'em Up Day' planned for Bladen Co. students

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Third grade students in Bladen County are going to have the chance to learn about agriculture hands on during the “Ag’em Up Day.”

The event—sponsored by N.C. State University, Cooperative Extension, Farm Bureau, Smithfield and Bladen County Schools— will consist of two sessions on Wednesday, Oct. 5, one from 9 until 11:15 a.m. and the second from 11:45 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The following agricultural stations will be available, according to Bladen County Schools:

  • Swine, poultry and beef production (live chick hatchery, cow petting and pig petting)
  • Cotton
  • Peanuts
  • Corn and soybean (students will be able to grind their own corn into feed
  • Nutrition of our food (students will make their own health snacks)
  • Soils and the environment
  • Beekeeping (live demonstration)
