Students presented with awards during end of year athletic banquet

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Athletes at West Bladen High School were given awards last month during the end of year athletic banquet.

According to the school district's website, the following awards were presented:

Football

Offensive Lineman  -  Velarde Reyes

MVP  -  Zack Wilcox

Offensive Back  -  Malcolm Vaught

Defensive Back  -  Parker Allen and Edward Owens

Most Improved  -  Chris Lemmings

Kids impressed with emergency vehicles

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Several agencies came together in Bladen County to help bring a special truck show to Bladen Lakes Primary School.

According to the school district’s website, students had the chance to play on emergency service vehicles.

The kids were excited to see each different vehicle and turn on the sirens and lights.

Students experience rainforest themed animal show

Students experience rainforest themed animal show

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students at Bladen Lakes Primary were recently treated to a rainforest themed animal show, according to the school district’s website.

According to the school, students saw a Brazilian badger, a Macaw bird, a cockroach, an iguana, and a snake, among other animals.

The program was hosted by the Bureau of Lectures and Concert Artists.

Bladen County Schools joins photo-sharing site Flickr

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you enjoy taking pictures, Bladen County Schools recently joined Flickr, a photo-sharing website, according to the school system’s site.

With graduation quickly approaching, parents and students are encouraged to join and upload their graduation memories, which they can then easily share with friends and family members all in one place.

District Attorneys welcome new class of interns

 

LELAND, NC (WECT) – Promising law students joined district attorneys Ben David and Jon David for lunch Monday morning to kickoff their summer internship.

The 16 interns will spend the summer getting hands-on experience inside the courtroom.

"What we're hoping for all of them whether it last a career or just a summer is that they do something really important,” said Ben David. “That they have an experience that changes their lives and the lives of people we represent every day."

The intern class is a collection of law students from the seven law schools from around the state.

Bladen Co. schools adopt uniform policy for upcoming school year

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The school board in Bladen County announced Wednesday that students will be in uniforms when they return to school this fall.

According to spokesperson Valerie Newton, all students will be required to wear a school uniform daily, but each school has chosen its own standard uniform and colors that represent the school.

The school system decided to have students wear uniforms because of anecdotal evidence that points to a decrease in discipline and behavior problems amongst students.

Specific guidelines for each school are as follows:

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Fourteen students served as marshals during the 49th Commencement exercises for Southeastern Community College on May 10.

Marshals serve as the hosts and hostesses of the graduation by seating special guests, handing out programs, and ringing bells that signal the beginning and ending of the ceremony.
