Update: Thousands of dollars seized in drug raid

Deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office and agents from the NCSBI, Chadbourn Police Department, and the Bladen County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant Wednesday at Harold's Body Shop.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Court documents show deputies seized $8,174, a gun, box of sandwich bags, digital scales, a Wells Fargo receipt, Ziploc bag with marijuana, a surveillance system, Dell computer, and thumb drive from Harold's Body Shop in Chadbourn last Wednesday.

Dozens of Deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office, agents from the NCSBI, and Chadbourn Police Department executed the search warrant.

They also searched Larry McKenzie's home. McKenzie owns Harold's Body Shop.

According to Sheriff Chris Batten, the warrants stem from an extensive investigation after several complaints from citizens in and around Chadbourn about suspicious activity at the business and home.

Investigators said Harold's Body Shop was the meeting place for drug deals all over the county.

More than 300 cited in Bladen Co. during “No Need 2 Speed” campaign

BLADEN COUNTY, NC, (WECT) – More than 42,000 traffic and criminal citations were issued across the state during this year’s “No Need 2 Speed” campaign, according to a news release from a North Carolina Department of Transportation spokesperson.

The campaign ran from March 25 – 31, and law enforcement officers teamed up with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to crack down on drivers speeding.

CHARGED: Man found with gun stolen from a deputy

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officers in Elizabethtown arrested a man Saturday night for having a gun stolen from a Bladen County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to police, officers saw Carl Andre Reaves, 24, near Mercer Road and South Poplar Street around 11:00 Saturday night.

They said Reaves had the handgun in his pocket. An investigation revealed the gun was stolen during a vehicle break-in in November 2012.

Reaves was arrested and charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm.

This is the second stolen gun taken off the streets of Elizabethtown in the past week.

CHARGED: Woman accused of stealing ID to get a job at McDonalds

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A woman was arrested in Bladen County for stealing the identity of a woman in Texas to get a job at McDonalds.

According to authorities, Lisa Fonseca, of Wesleco, Texas, reported to her local police department in 2011 her vehicle had been broken into and her purse with personal information had been stolen.

When checking her credit report this year, Fonseca discovered someone working at McDonalds in Elizabethtown was using her name and personal information.

Officers with the Elizabethtown Police Department investigated the claims and learned Sesthela Rojas, 32 of Bladenboro, was using Fonseca's information to get a job at McDonalds. She had been working with the restaurant for about six months.

Rojas was arrested and charged with ID theft.

Accused drug dealer arrested during undercover operation

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Elizabethtown Police Department arrested a man who sold drugs during an undercover operation.

According to authorities, Ramel Lewis, 26, was arrested Saturday night. Police say he sold drugs during the undercover operation conducted by the police department over the past eight months.

Lewis was charged with:

  • Possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana
  • Deliver Marijuana
  • Manufacture Marijuana
  • Sell Marijuana
  • Poss Drug Paraphernalia

'Operation Slow Down' yields more than 13,500 citations in NC

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – More than 13,500 drivers across North Carolina were recently cited for speeding during the Highway Patrol’s Operation Slow Down campaign. The campaign was done in combination with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program No Need to Speed effort.

According to officials, speeding is the leading cause of traffic accidents and fatalities throughout the state and across the country.

Highway Patrol investigated 1,801 fatal accidents in North Carolina in 2012. Of those, 245 deaths were contributed to speed, compared to 244 in 2011, according to the NC Highway Patrol.

Despite the end of the Operation Slow Down campaign, troopers will continue to aggressively enforce the speed limits in North Carolina.

“Our number one priority is to ensure the safety of the motoring public,” said Bill Grey, commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Bladenboro town manager charged with assault

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Bladen County Sheriff's Office confirmed the Bladenboro Town Manager was served with two warrants over the weekend.

According to court records, Delane Jackson was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault on a female. He is scheduled to be in court at the end of April. WECT has reached out to Jackson, but has not heard back yet.

Jackson told the Fayetteville Observer the charges stemmed from an incident at his Laundromat involving two woman. Jackson told the paper that the woman had a problem with one of the machines.

During the conversation Jackson's keys were knocked to the ground, when he tried to pick them up the woman stood over the keys, and that's when he says he pushed them away.
