BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Ten high school athlete finalists for the U.S. Army Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Award for Excellence were announced Tuesday, and a Bladen County student is among them.

Melissa Macon of East Bladen High School was named one of the finalists, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s website.

Macon, along with the other finalists, will attend the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The program aims to highlight student-athletes’ achievements in the U.S., and it was open to high school sophomores and juniors who succeed academically and in the community.

The winner of the Award for Excellence will be announced at an awards dinner at the Bowl’s formal on Jan. 4 of next year.

The finalists will reportedly be honored individual ceremonies at each of their schools later in the fall.
