Bladen Co. Board of Commissioners meetings scheduled

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Bladen County Board of Commissioners has a special meeting coming up.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, according to The Bladen Journal. Additionally, Bladen County’s website says that a regular meeting will be held that day at 6:30 p.m.

The meetings will take place at the Bladen County Courthouse.

4 new staff members join Bladenboro Middle

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bladenboro Middle School is welcoming four new staff members in August, according to a post on the Bladen County Schools website.

Angela Campbell will join the fifth grade team, Pamela Bryant and Alec Clark will teach seventh grade, and Jonathan Lewis will be an eighth grade instructor, the post said.

Elizabethtown named to Small Town Main Street Program

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) - Elizabethtown has been chosen to participate in the Small Town Main Street Program.

The program is part of the North Carolina Department of Commerce. According to the department's website, "The STMS program is designed to provide downtown revitalization assistance to small towns (populations less than 7,500), which lack the financial resources to employ a downtown manager, a requirement of the N.C. Main Street program."

There is an application process and once a town is chosen the program lasts for two years. The STMP provides staff and services to help towns in the revitalization process. It includes help with organization, design, promotion, and economic restructuring.

Five new teachers join Bladen Lakes Primary

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bladen Lakes Primary School will start the year with five new teachers, according to a post on the Bladen County Schools website.

Lisa Park and Emily Lennon will teach first grade, and Bill Rudin and Susan Dowless will join the second grade team. Greg Halzauher will teach fourth grade at the school.

INVESTIGATION: Vehicle taken from business in Clarkton

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Investigators in Bladen County are trying to determine who took a vehicle from a business early Tuesday morning.

According to Captain Rodney Hester with the sheriff’s office, a vehicle, along with assorted tools, was stolen from E.J. Cox Processing off of US 701 Business in Clarkton.

Hester said a white, 2008 Chevrolet Silverado with vehicle registration #DE7032 was taken after the business was broken into.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 862-6960.
