Bladen Co. schools, government offices closed

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – All Bladen County government offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24-Wednesday, Dec. 26, according to the county's website.

Bladen County Schools are currently closed for winter break through Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Columbus Co., Whiteville, Bladenboro receive community improvement grants

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – Gov. Bev Perdue announced Thursday that 21 counties and communities statewide have been awarded NC Catalyst Community Development Block Grants for community improvement projects, according to a news release.

Columbus County, along with the towns of Whiteville and Bladenboro, received the following grants:

Vineyard giving away free grapes

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Lu Mil Vineyard has an abundance of muscadine grapes this year. In fact, there have too many to harvest.

The vineyard will share their crops with anyone interested in picking their own grapes. Just bring a bucket or container to carry and pick as many as you’d like.

The grapes are free and will last until they are gone.

Lu Mil Vineyard is located at 438 Suggs-Taylor Road in Elizabethtown. They’re open Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m.

Pre-K Committee meeting scheduled

Pre-K Committee meeting scheduled

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A brief Pre-K Committee meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25, according to the Bladen County Schools’ website.

The meeting will start at 9 a.m. and shouldn’t last for more than an hour. It will be held in the Blue room at the Board of Education building.

NC Farm Bureau video highlights Elizabethtown farmers market

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A video recently added to YouTube by the NC Farm Bureau highlights revitalization and business efforts within Elizabethtown, focusing on the success of its farmers market.

In the video, Town Manager Eddie Madden explains how, about 10 years ago, town council and the Department of Commerce met and brainstormed ways to revitalize the downtown area. One of those ways was through the addition of a farmers market.

“Being that Bladen County is predominantly driven by agriculture, it seemed like a logical venue for the town,” says Madden in the video.

Dublin Fire District Commissioners, Board of Directors to meet

DUBLIN, NC (WECT) – A meeting will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. between the Dublin Fire District Board of Directors and the Dublin Fire District Commissioners, according to The Bladen Journal.

Members in attendance are scheduled to discuss fire district and department needs, including the election of three Board of Directors members for six-year terms.  

The meeting will be held at the Dublin Fire Station.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Bladen County Board of Commissioners has a meeting coming up.

The board will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Bladen County Courthouse for a specially-called meeting, according to The Bladen Journal.
