CHARGED: Woman accused of stealing ID to get a job at McDonalds

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A woman was arrested in Bladen County for stealing the identity of a woman in Texas to get a job at McDonalds.

According to authorities, Lisa Fonseca, of Wesleco, Texas, reported to her local police department in 2011 her vehicle had been broken into and her purse with personal information had been stolen.

When checking her credit report this year, Fonseca discovered someone working at McDonalds in Elizabethtown was using her name and personal information.

Officers with the Elizabethtown Police Department investigated the claims and learned Sesthela Rojas, 32 of Bladenboro, was using Fonseca's information to get a job at McDonalds. She had been working with the restaurant for about six months.

Rojas was arrested and charged with ID theft.

Culinary instructor gives tips to students at WBHS

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students at West Bladen High School learned more about culinary arts Wednesday, according to the Bladen County Schools website.

Johnson and Wales University Culinary Instructor Chef Robert Penry was invited to share his expertise with the students in Mrs. Gail Marsh’s Foods class.

The chef gave students suggestions for their own food preparations and showed them the correct techniques for preparing and cooking food.

Penry also told students about classes and programs offered at Johnson and Wales University.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Small Business/Customized Training Division of Continuing Education at Bladen Community College is hosting a series of small business seminars.

The first session focused on writing a business plan. Another session will be held Tuesday night 6:30-8:30 and will focus on common mistakes in business.

DuPont Fayetteville Works teams up with Tar Heel Middle School

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – For the third year, DuPont Fayetteville Works is teaming up with Tar Heel Middle School to support the Science Olympiad program, according to the Bladen County school system’s website.

The program is made up of two teams of students: varsity and junior varsity.

It’s described as a hands-on, interactive science program, and with DuPont Fayetteville’s help, the group will be able to use necessary resources and materials, which means they could end up competing regionally and even at a statewide level.

This year, Tar Heel Middle School teacher and program leader David Wimert says he believes the students will go all the way to the state competition.

High school's Agriculture Department donates fresh produce to needy

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The West Bladen High School Agriculture Department recently donated more than 60 bags of fresh produce to those in need, according to BladenOnline.com.

The produce came from a garden that was build adjacent to the school, owned by Wallace Brisson. The garden was prepared by William and Nelson Brisson, who created different types of rows and beds and donated more than 50 plants and four bags of fertilizer to the cause.

From there, West Bladen’s Horticulture I class planted collards, cabbage, lettuce, kale, rape, and turnips, and later processed and prepared the produce to distribute it.

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – East Carolina University leaders are considering opening a dental community learning center in Southeastern NC.

According to Kim Smith, the health director at ECU, the university is considering putting a center in either Columbus, Bladen, or Brunswick counties.

Smith says that whichever county ECU ends up choosing, the school will pay for the building, but the county must donate two acres of land.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – All Bladen County government offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24-Wednesday, Dec. 26, according to the county's website.

Bladen County Schools are currently closed for winter break through Tuesday, Jan. 1.
