Students write and produce music video

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Some students at Bladen Lakes Primary School have teamed up to create their own music video.

According to the school district’s website, Ethan Johnson, Ayden Piland and Jordan Pridgen wrote and produced The Bladen Lakes School Song.

They are all fourth grade students at the school.

Students engaged in unique lesson on Black History

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students at Elizabethtown Primary Kindergarten enjoyed a special Black History presentation Friday from Mariea Ruffin and Cheryl Shaw, according to the school district’s website.

The presenters dressed in African attire and presented various cultural objects in honor of Black History month.

Ruffin shared biographies of famous black Americans and Shaw engaged students through a role play by reading a traditional poem.

According to the school’s website, “Ruffin gathered a group of student volunteers and informed students that regardless of the color of our skin we are ONE, and together we represent the United States of America.”

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Auditions for an upcoming play will take place soon, according to The Bladen Journal.

Tryouts for He Cheated! Why Me? will take place Sunday at the Elizabethtown Library from noon to 5 p.m.

New exhibit on display at NC Museum of Forestry

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A new exhibit will be on display at the NC Museum of Forestry in Whiteville Saturday.

Flashback shows photos taken by Mack Munn who was a photographer who snapped pictures in black communities in the 40s, 50s and 60s. The pictures were taken in Bladen and Columbus Counties.

The exhibit also showcases artifacts from the era, like a camera Munn used and basketball jersey.

The display will open at 2:00 p.m. Saturday and will be at the museum until August.

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – In anticipation of the upcoming Super Bowl, a unique display of Super Bowl cards can currently by seen at the Bladen County Public Library in Elizabethtown, according to The Bladen Journal.

A man named Wayne T. Cox has been collecting Super Bowl Cards since 1967. Each of the cards have teams, coaches players, play information, scoring and more on them.

The display will only be up until Monday, Feb. 4, which is the day after this year’s Super Bowl event.

Annual NC Grape Festival will be held next month

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The annual NC Grape Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lu Mil Vineyard in Dublin, according to event spokesperson.

The festival, which will include food, crafts, jewelry, homemade items and more, is free for both vendors and the public to attend.

There will also be a grape stomp.

East Bladen High student named semi-finalist in national essay contest

East Bladen High student named semi-finalist in national essay contest

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – An East Bladen High School student recently was honored as a semi-finalist in a national essay contest, according to the Bladen County Schools website.

Alexis Lacewell’s essay about individuality was entered into the 2012 Anthem Essay Contest, along with 21,000 other entries.

The Ayn Rand Institute in Irvine, CA announced Lacewell as a semi-finalist, and as a result, she was awarded a cash prize, a book and certificate of recognition.
